Product Highlights
“Devotional thoughts dealing with the pattern for serving God is daily life and the nurture of the inner life.” Serious Call to a Devout and Holy Life as the title indicates, is a book that explores how all Christians should live a life of full devotion to God. As an English devotional this book ranks only second to Pilgrim’s Progress in popularity. William Meister Law's(1686-1761) intention in writing this book was to challenge the "spiritually dry" of the day, who had become caught up with the tradition and legalism of the Church, rather than living every day in Christ. Here is an excerpt from the book concerning the nature and extent of Christian devotion: "DEVOTION is neither private nor public prayer; but prayers, whether private or public, are particular parts or instances of devotion. Devotion signifies a life given, or devoted, to God." Law book went to greatly affect the lives of Charles and John Wesley and George Whitefield. It is claimed that John Wesley remarked that Law had taught him all they he knew about religion. This book by William Law was published in 1728 in London, England.
