In this study, Dr. Staats explores the literary dynamics of the David/Bathsheba story and its sequel, the Ammon/Absalom account. Dr. Staats examines the use of the Leitwort motif, specific Hebrew terms and phrases, irony and repetition, character development, ambiguity, crescendo, pathos, and other literary techniques used in the narrative of 2 Samuel 9-14. This study will lead to the identification of certain didactic conclusions, as well as moral and ethical themes which the biblical writer desired to communicate to his audience. About the Author
