Product Highlights
"Hughes deals fully and minutely with the Epistle from a philological as well as theological point of view. Hughes erudition is impressive, and his exposition and evaluation of complicated theories proposed over the centuries are models of lucidity. No one can work through this volume without gaining a deeper appreciation of the great and abiding themes taught in the Epistle in all their power and fullness. Pastors and students alike will gain from the commentary a deeper understanding of the riches of the Epistle." "As in the rest of Hughes's writings, the treatment is not only full, astute, and of the highest scholarly standards but also rich in theological insight." "May well be regarded as the finest conservative exposition of this epistle" "There is a wealth of good volumes on Romans. Hodge is like a course on systematic theology, Haldane is sound and throbs with life, but if forced to choose, invest in Murray" These four volumes were formerly published as a part of the New International Commentary on the New Testament. Each will hold continued value as a scholarly resource in your study of God's Word. It includes:
About the Authors Philip Edgcumbe Hughes was a theologian, New Testament scholar, and Anglican clergyman. In theology, he was a firm Calvinist, but had the breadth of sympathies of a true scholar. His writings are solid in substance and graceful in style. His other works include: Lefevre: Pioneer of Ecclesiastical Renewal in France, The True Image, Theology of the English Reformers, and But for the Grace of God. Herman Ridderbos was Professor Emeritus of New Testament at the Theological School of the Reformed Churches of the Netherlands at Kampen. Dr. Ridderbos was constantly active as a preacher, lecturer, and contributor to various magazines including Het Gereformeerd Weekblad, a weekly commentary which was widely read in the Netherlands. He was one of the most important New Testament theologians of the 20th century--particularly because of his emphasis on the history of salvation Heilsgeschichte or biblical theology. He authored numerous books, including Paul: An Outline of His Theology, The Gospel of John: A Theological Commentary, and The Self-Disclosure of Jesus.
