Product Highlights
Genesis: A Biblical Commentary in the Wesleyan Tradition is part of a commentary series that interprets the books of the Bible from a Wesleyan perspective. While it is designed primarily with lay people in mind-Sunday school teachers, Bible study leaders, students of the Word-pastors will also find it most helpful. Following the New International Version, each book of the Bible is explained paragraph by paragraph, illuminating the key concepts of each passage and how they relate to our life and times today. This series offers insight into the Scripture that brings greater understanding of what the Bible says, its significance for our lives today, and further transformation into the images of Christ. One of the ways we might refer to the book of Genesis is the book of beginnings. It starts with the creation of the universe, after which God created the human pair from whom all peoples of the world have come. Genesis provides insights as to how sin came into the world, under what circumstances the people of Israel became God's covenant people, and how Israel's God is not simply a local deity or tribal god. Throughout the book of Genesis, we learn that God wanted the people created in His image to know about Him. He demonstrates His desire for fellowship with humankind. He met people where they were and drew them toward himself, no matter how far humans strayed from God's plan. God also showed that He could not make a treaty with sin and that sin carries a punishment with it. God also proved He is a covenant God, one who gives and keeps His word. About the Author Dr. Williams has studied in several institutions in the States, as well as England and Israel. He has also worked for nine years in printing and publishing, five years of which was spent as Circulation Manager of a New York based newspaper with a 300,000 circulation. For 13 years he was the host of a daily 45 minute call-in radio show called ACTION LINE over the ABC station WGOM in Marion, Indiana. He was often called 'Marion's Paul Harvey.' Dr. Williams assisted in the making of a multi-media project in Israel for the Kiwanis International Travelogue, producing 'Israel, Country of Contrasts' for them. He also participated in making the film, 'In the Footsteps of Jesus'. He is a frequent contributor to 'The Advocate,' 'Illustrated Bible Life,' 'Daily Bread,' and other religious periodicals. He has published 'From Sand to Glass,' a book of poems he has written, 'Finding Your Maximum Happiness,' a study on the Ten Commandments, and a commentary on Genesis. Dr. Williams has been active on Indian archaeological digs in this country but more active on excavations in Israel and North Africa. He has dug for over 30 years in such cities as Arad, Aphek, Jerusalem, Carthage, Lachish, Megiddo, Jezreel and is presently working at the Biblical city of Hazor where two palaces have been found; one from the time of Joshua, and another from the time of Abraham. It is known both palaces have clay tablet archives which should soon come to light. He also takes groups of people with him to dig at various archaeological sites each summer. Three or four times a year he takes groups of Pilgrims to Bible Lands to better explain the Bible and archaeology, as well as to view the sites made famous by Jesus and the people of the Old and New Testaments. Altogether he has gone to Israel 95 times. Dr. Williams has been elected 'Professor of the Year' or 'Professor of Excellence' by the student body or Administration of the University an unprecedented seven times. For the last five years he has been selected as one of the Nation's Best Teachers and listed in 'Who's Who in America's Teachers.'
