About the Author
After graduating from Edinburgh University and five years of theological training, Marcus Dods (1834-1909) was licensed for the ministry in 1858. He served the Refield Free Church, part of the Free Church of Scotland, for twenty-five years. In 1889, he was appointed professor at the New College in Edinburgh, and, in 1907, he became the principal of that same institution. Throughout his life, Dods spent considerable time writing, editing, and translating pieces of theology. Among his original writings, Dods wrote The Epistle to the Seven Churches, Israel's Iron Age, How to Become Like Christ, and many more.
