Abuse is ugly. It is always wrong. If is never part of God's design for healthy family living. It distorts relationships and shatters dreams. It creates pain and despair. It never produces hope. You know this all too well - that's why you have chosen this book.

The authors know the pain of women who have been abused, especially the unique pain of Christian women who thought it could not happen to them. In this straight-forward, practical book they supply the answers to the questions you face. Their advice is solid, backed up by professional expertise as a sociologist and a Biblical scholar. Together they supply both the here-and-now, step-by-step advice you need to start the healing journey and the Biblical insights to nourish your soul and sustain you on the path to wholeness.

About the Authors

Nancy Nason-Clark (PhD., London School of Economics and Political Science) is currently the Chair/Professor of the Department of Sociology at the University of New Brunswick.

Nancy teaches a variety of undergraduate and graduate sociology courses in research methods, gender, religion and violence. In more recent years, her research and writing has focused on issues of violence in the family context and issues of faith or spirituality. Her research program involves a variety of projects examining the relationship between abuse, faith, gender and culture; and has taken her to many parts of the world, most recently to India, Eastern Europe, and the Caribbean. One of the most rewarding aspects of her work continues to be interacting with the great graduate students she has the privilege to supervise.

Catherine Clark Kroeger (Ph.D., University of Minnesota) is currently the Ranked Adjunct Associate Professor of Classical and Ministry Studies at Gordon-Conwel Theological Seminary.

Dr. Kroeger has taught at Gordon-Conwell since 1990 and has been actively involved in fighting against domestic violence and for the equality of women. To this end, she currently serves as the president of Peace and Safety in the Christian Home, a coalition of Christians committed to providing resources and education to eliminate domestic violence in the Christian home. She is, in addition, the founding president of Christians for Biblical Equality, a coalition of Christians united around the belief that Scripture supports the equality of men and women.

Dr. Kroeger has also held leadership positions within the educational realm. She is the founding chair of the Women in the Bible section of the Society of Biblical Literature and currently sits on the boards of Trinity Christian Academy and Latham School. She has also served on the boards of Whitworth College, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and has been involved with Evangelicals for Social Action. She has served as the former president of the Minnesota School of Missions and is the former Protestant chaplain of Hamilton College.

Dr. Kroeger holds memberships in the American Academy of Religion, the Society of Biblical Literature and the Evangelical Theological Society. A member of the Presbyterian Church USA, Dr. Kroeger has been very active as a layperson in the church. Her scholarly interests include women in ancient religion, human sexuality and biblical mandate, women of the Bible, women in the early church, Africans in the Bible and early church, Christian response to domestic abuse and the social world of the early church.
