About the Author
Edward McKendree Bounds first practiced law until he was called to preach the gospel. During the Civil War he served as a chaplain in the Confederate Army and he was captured during the battle of Nashville. After the war, Bounds served in several pastorates in Alabama, Tennessee, and Missouri for the Methodist Church. At the end of his pastorate, he became the editor of the St. Louis Christian Advocate.
