Do I need to have my older Wordsearch program installed before I install Wordsearch 12?
“What if I cannot find my old CDs?”

You do not need your old versions of Wordsearch or QuickVerse on your computer before you install Wordsearch 12. You do not need your old CDs.

You can install Wordsearch 12 all by itself and still get your books into the Wordsearch 12 library.

Is Wordsearch 12 compatible with Windows XP?

No. Wordsearch 12 is not supported on Windows XP nor on Vista. We do not even recommend experimenting with WS12 on either of these operating systems.

Wordsearch 12 Installation Steps

How do I install WS12 on a PC?

Step 1: Get a Download Link.
You can get a Download Link by calling or emailing our Customer Service Department at 1-800-888-9898 or Wordsearchsales@lifeway.com
You can also send them a chat request. Just go to our web site at www.WordsearchBible.com. The chat box is in the lower right corner.

Step 2: Click on your Download Link.
Clicking on the Download Link will start the download of the file "WS12Setup.exe" and may also produce a prompt to "Run" or "Save" the file "WS12Setup.exe".

  1. If you choose "Run", the Wordsearch 12 program will automatically start when the file "WS12Setup.exe" has completely downloaded.
  2. If you choose "Save", the file "WS12Setup.exe" will download into your Downloads folder and you will have to go to your Downloads folder and double click on the file"WS12Setup.exe" to start the installation process. Click here to watch our video "How to Find Your 'Downloads' Folder"
  3. If you click on the download link but do not get the option to Run or Save, wait a few minutes to allow the setup file to download, then, go to your "Downloads” folder and look for the file "WS12Setup.exe" . When you see it, double click on it to install Wordsearch 12.

How do I install Wordsearch 12 on a MAC?

Step 1: Get a download link.

Step 2: Clicking on the Download Link will download the file "Setup.WS12Mac.Zip". (You will NOT be asked if you want to "Run” it or "Save” it.)

Step 3: Go to the "Downloads” folder on your MAC

Step 4: Look for the folder called "Setup" and open it

Step 5: "Right Click" on the file "setup.mpkg"
(This will launch the Wordsearch 12 installation program.)

Problems Installing Wordsearch 12

"When I install Wordsearch 12 for Mac, I get the following error: "Setup.MPKG can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.""

To resolve this error, Right Click on the file "setup.mpkg".

Below are 3 different ways to Right Click on a Mac as well as the rest of the steps to install Wordsearch 12 for Mac

Here are 3 different ways to Right Click on a Mac

  1. Hold down the Control key on the keyboard and mouse click or tap on your Magic Trackpad or build in Touchpad
  2. You can also tap with two fingers on your Magic Trackpad or build in Touchpad
  3. Finally, if you use a Magic Mouse or Mighty Mouse, click the right side of the mouse.

After you Right Click on the file "setup.mpkg", Left Click on "Open With"

If you get the same error message - "Setup.MPKG can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer" - click on "Open". Behind the Finder window you will see the initial Wordsearch 12 for Mac installation program window.

"There was a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run."

Recommendation: Our recommendation is to take your computer to a shop that employs certified Windows professionals and have your computer inspected for the cause of this error.

Our research at the Microsoft Support Technical Database web site has revealed that this error can caused by several different problems:

  • Not downloading all the current Windows Updates
  • You have an out-of-date Windows installer package
  • You have a bad Windows Installer package
  • The computer does not recognize you as an Administrator
  • You do not have administrative rights for the "Temp" directory at C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Local
  • A security program on your computer is blocking a required DLL from being run

"Error writing file C:\Program Files (x86)\WORDsearch 12\WORDsearch.exe. Verify that you have access to that directory."

This is often caused by a lack of Administrator rights as well as security programs such as McAfee, WebRoot, Kaspersky, Norton and many others.

Recommendation 1: Uninstall, Reboot, then reinstall as an Administrator

  1. Look for the program called Program or Programs and Features
  2. Uninstall Wordsearch 12 (Click here for your uninstall instructions)

Recommendation 2: Disable all features in your security program then reinstall

  1. Reboot PC
  2. Open your security program(s)
  3. Look for features such as "Real-time Scanning", "Auto-scan", and "Auto-protect" or anything else that may prevent writing to your hard drive.
  4. Disable these features

"I cannot find the Wordsearch 12 File to install it."
"I just downloaded Wordsearch 12 but now, I cannot find it."
"When I click on my download link in the email, it says the link has expired"

Try searching your computer. The file you need to look for is "ws12setup.exe"

How to Search for a File on a Windows Computer

Step 1: Press the Windows logo key:

Step 2: Type ws12setup.exe

Your computer will immediately begin searching your computer for the file ws12setup.exe and display a menu with the results of its search.

If your computer finds the file ws12setup.exe, click on it, in the menu, and that will start the installation of Wordsearch 12 for PC.

How to Search for a File on a Mac Computer

  1. Press Command-Space to open the Spotlight feature
  2. Enter the file name setup.mpkg

"The installer could not install the software because there was no software found to install."

If you get this error when installing from a DVD, then the DVD is missing files.

Recommendation: Contact the Wordsearch Sales / Customer Service Department and have them do the following:

  1. Register the DVD into your account
  2. Get a download link and the instructions to download and install the Wordsearch 12 program and all your books

The green bar at the bottom keeps filling up, goes blank, then fills up again, over and over. The screen says "Please wait while the setup program installs the WORDsearch program." It’s been 10 minutes.

This problem has been known to be caused by security programs such as WebRoot, SpyCatcher, Kaspersky and Symantec.

  1. Open your security program(s)
  2. Look for features such as "Real-time Scanning", "Auto-scan" and "Auto-protect" or anything else that may prevent writing to your hard drive.
  3. Disable these features
  4. If needed, temporarily uninstall your security program

For assistance doing this, please contact the manufacturer of your security program.

Problems Starting Wordsearch 12

"A connection to the server could not be established."
"You must be connected to the internet”

These errors are known to be caused by the following:

  1. No internet connection
  2. Slow internet download speed
  3. Internet security programs

Recommendation 1: Make sure you are connected to the internet

Recommendation 2: Check your internet download speed. Make sure you have a good download speed of 3Mbps or more.

You can check your internet download speed at http://www.SpeedTest.Net. When you get there, click on the "Begin Test" button, or, the "Go" button.

If you need to improve your internet connection, try the following:

  1. If you are using WiFi, move your computer closer to your router
  2. Connect your computer to the internet using an Ethernet cable
  3. Contact your internet service provider to improve your speed

Recommendation 3: Open your security program and change the following:

  1. Turn off the Firewall
  2. Turn off any active or real time scanning features
  3. Allow Wordsearch 12 full inbound/outbound access to the internet
  4. Exclude Wordsearch 12 from being scanned by your security program
  5. Add Wordsearch 12 to your security program's "Trusted List", "Excluded", list, or, "Exceptions" list
  6. Temporarily uninstall your security program, then reboot your computer

For help following any these recommendations, please contact the technical support department for your security program, or, contact your IT department.

"When Wordsearch 12 gets to the Desktop, it's all locked up."
"It gets to the Desktop and opens some of my books, but I cannot click on anything or move anything. It's like it's frozen!"
"Soon after getting to the Desktop, It says "Not responding.""

Recommendation: Delete the files "Windowstate.ini" and "Mainform.ini."

How to Locate Windowstate.ini and Mainform.ini in Windows 10 & Windows 7

  1. Click on the Windows icon in lower left corner
  2. Scroll down your list of apps in the Start menu and look for the "Wordsearch 12" folder
  3. Open the "Wordsearch 12" folder
  4. Click on "Shortcut to Personal Data Files" (This will open a "File Explorer" window.)
  5. Open the "Desktops" folder in the File Explorer window
  6. Open the folder of the Desktop that is locking up when you start Wordsearch 12
  7. Delete the files Windowstate.ini and Mainform.ini

You may now start the Wordsearch 12 program

How to Locate Windowstate.ini and Mainform.ini on a MAC

  1. Restart your Mac and Do Not Start the Wordsearch 12 program
  2. Open a Finder Window
  3. Click on Go in the Apple bar at top
  4. Click on Computer
  5. Click on Macintosh HD icon
  6. Open the Home icon
  7. Open the WORDsearchUserData folder
  8. Open the "Desktops” folder
  9. Open the folder of the Desktop that is locking up on you when opening the Wordsearch 12 for Mac program
  10. Look for the files Windowstate.ini and "Mainform" then delete them, or, drag them to the trash can

You may now start Wordsearch 12 for Mac

How to Locate Windowstate.ini and Mainform.ini in Windows 8/8.1

  1. Go to the Start screen
  2. Type in the word "Run" then press the Enter key
  3. Copy then paste the following into the run box:
    C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Wordsearch 12\Desktops\
  4. Press the Enter key on your keyboard. (This will open an Explorer window displaying your Desktop folders.)
  5. Open the Desktops folder for the Desktop that is locking up when you start Wordsearch 12
  6. Look for the files Windowstate.ini and Mainform.INI, then, Delete them

You may now start the Wordsearch 12 program

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

This error is typically caused by a security program on your computer such as McAfee, Kaspersky Internet Security, WebRoot, ...

Recommendation 1: If you have the Kaspersky Internet Security program, try adding Wordsearch 12 to its "Trusted Applications Group".

For assistance, contact their technical support department at 1-866-525-9094.

Recommendation 2: Reboot PC then disable all the features in your security programs such as "Real-time Scanning", "Auto-scan", "Auto-protect".

Recommendation 3: Uninstall Wordsearch 12 using the Windows Uninstaller programm (Click here for your uninstall instructions), then reinstall the Wordsearch 12 program

Recommendation 4: Contact Wordsearch Technical Support at 1-888-854-8400

"The item "Wordsearch.exe" that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved."

"The Booklist File is missing"



To fix this error / problem, just reinstall Wordsearch 12.

"Duplicate Book"



To address the duplicate book error messages, try the following:

  1. Examine the error message
  2. Write down the book that is mentioned in the error message
  3. Delete that book from your hard drive
  4. Reinstall that book

How to find a book on your hard drive

  1. Enter the Wordsearch 12 library
  2. Make sure the book that appears in the error message(s) is not open
  3. Click on Help
  4. Click on About
  5. Click on the Support Info link at the bottom of the About window (This will open a new window called Support Information.)
  6. In the Support Information window, look along the left hand side for "Library" then click on the link to the right of it (This will open a window revealing folders. The files in these folders make up your books.)
  7. Look for the folder for the book that appears in the duplicate book error message
  8. Delete the folder for that book that appears in the duplicate book error message
  9. Shut down and restart Wordsearch 12 to verify if you have resolved the error
  10. To reinstall the book, look in your Library for the book, then, click on it. The book will be easy to find because it will appear as a cloud and a "down arrow”

"SQLite Error 1 – no such table: XRefMetaFata.”
"SQLite Error 1 - database disk image is malformed"
"SQLite Error 1 - no such table: LocalLoginMetaData"



This error can be resolved by deleting the following files from the Wordsearch 12 program:

  • Topics.bd3
  • Topics.flg
  • Topics.db3-journal
  • XRefs.db3
  • Xrefs.dat
  • Xrefs.flg
  • LocalLogin.db3

Follow the steps below to locate these files, then, delete them.

Steps for Windows 10 and Windows 7

  1. Click on the Windows icon in lower left corner
  2. Scroll down your list of apps in the Start menu until you reach the "Wordsearch 12" folder
  3. Open the "Wordsearch 12"
  4. Look for "Shortcut to Application Data Files" (This will open a "File Explorer" window.)
  5. Open the folder called "Global Data"
  6. Look for and delete any of the db3, flg, or dat files listed above
  7. You may now start the Wordsearch 12 program.

Steps for Windows 8 and 8.1

  1. Go to the "Start” screen
  2. Just start typing the following without the quotes

    " C:\ProgramData\WORDsearch\Global Data\ "

  3. Press the Enter key (this should open a window where you will see the files "Topic.db3” and "Topic.flg” and "Topic.db3-journal")
  4. Delete the following files if present: "Topic.db3,” "Topic.flg” and Topic.db3-journal, Xrefs.db3, Xrefs.dat, Xrefs.flg, and LocalLogin
  5. You may now start Wordsearch 12
NOTE: You can press the Windows logo key + the letter ”S” on your keyboard at the same time to open a Search box.

In the Windows search box, just type in the following without the quotes:

" C:\ProgramData\WORDsearch\Global Data\ "

Then press the Enter key. (this should open a window where you will see the files "Topic.db3” and "Topic.flg” and "Topic.db3-journal")

"The specified path was not found”

For this error, we recommend a full removal of the program and reinstall.
