Problems Using Features in Wordsearch 12

"What is this 'Indexing Step 2 of 5' message I keep seeing at the bottom of my screen?" It just hangs there. What is it doing?
"I also see the message 'Search index is building.' What's that?
"Can I still use the program while it is Indexing? Do I have to wait for the indexing to finish?"

Example of indexing messages seen at bottom of Wordsearch 12 program window

Another example of indexing messages seen at bottom of WS12 program window

This indexing is normal. Wordsearch 12 is scanning your Library, your Documents and your Topical books and building an index, like the index kind you see in the back of a large book. This index will be used by the Search feature to help you find words in your books. The index will also help the Topical Search feature find topics in your Library.

You can safely use all of the Wordsearch 12 features while the Indexing process is running, however, you may not be able to search your entire library for a word or topic until the index has finished.

NOTE: The more books you have, the longer the indexing takes.

If the indexing looks like it is "hung up" or frozen, that could be normal. Some books are bigger than others and the more books you have, the longer the indexing takes.

"Every time I startup WORDsearch 12, it indexes."
"I left Wordsearch 12 up and running and allowed it to finish indexing, but still, when I start Wordsearch 12, it re runs the Indexing."

If Wordsearch 12 indexes every time you start it, even though you have let it finish indexing, we recommend that you delete your Index files.

How to I locate your Index file

  1. Start the Wordsearch 12 program
  2. Click on "Help"
  3. Click on "About"
  4. In the About window, click on the "Support Info" link at the bottom. (This will open the Support Information window.)
  5. In the left-hand column, look for "Library" then click on the link to the right of it. (This will open a new window displaying your library books.)
  6. Scroll down to the bottom of this window and look for the file "ws10searchindex.dat"
  7. Delete the file "ws10searchindex.dat"
  8. Look for any files called "ws10_idxmerge" If found, Delete them.
  9. Close this window, Close the Support Information window, Close the About window then Close Wordsearch 12.
  10. Re-Start Wordsearch 12, Allow it to Index again. After the Indexing has completed, Re-Start WS12 and see if it re-starts the Indexing process.

"I get an error whenever WS12 Indexes. It says it has a problem with a book or a document I wrote."

The indexing process scans your books and documents very thoroughly. It can detect problems in your books and documents that you cannot detect.

Delete any books that appear in the error message, then re-download them. If you get an error indexing a document, delete it as well then recreate it. Do not Copy the contents of the document then paste it into a new document. You must recreate it from scratch so that you do not inherit the problems into the one you recreate.

"I tried using the Verse Explorer feature and got this error - "Verse Explorer cannot be used yet. Its data is still being updated.""

The Verse Explorer feature uses a database, aka an index, and it cannot be used until Wordsearch 12 has completely built this database.

Look at the bottom of the Wordsearch 12 program window for a status message regarding the indexing progress. If you see a message like the one below, that means you will have to wait. When the indexing message goes away, you should be able to use the Verse Explorer feature.

Example of WS12 Indexing message. This means Indexing has not finished.

Another example of WS12 Indexing message. This means Indexing is still not finished.

"My Topic Explorer locks up. The green bar at the bottom stops moving."
"When I use the Topic Explorer, a green bar at the bottom left corner starts moving from left to right but eventually it stops and locks up there. It never finishes its topic search."

This is caused by a bad book, or bad Document, or a bad Note you created. You will have to use Algebra, or the process of elimination to identify the bad book, then, delete the bad book and re download it.

To help identify the bad book, follow the suggestion below:

  1. Create a Collection according to the steps below
  2. Add a few books to the Collection
  3. Use the Topic Explore feature to search those books in your Collection

If the Topic Explorer does not freeze or lock up, then the books in the collection are good. Add a few books more books into that Collection then run the Topic Explore feature again.

If the Topic Explorer never locks up, then the most likely cause was a Document you created, or, a Note you created. Delete the Document or Note and re create it.

If the Topic Explorer locks up after adding a book, delete the book and re download it according the steps on the FAQ page called "Problems Opening and Using Books."

Q: What are Collections?A: A group of books hand picked by the user

By default, the Topic Explorer searches your entire library. If you want to restrict the group of books being searched, you can define / create a Collection.

How do I Create a Collection?

  1. Click on "Tools" in the main menu bar
  2. Click on "Manage Collections … "
  3. Click on the "New" button
  4. Click the "+" signs to expand the categories
  5. Click the boxes to choose the books you want in the New Collection
  6. UNCHECK the boxes for "Include My Documents" and "Include NOTES"
  7. Click on "Save As"
  8. Name your Collection
  9. Click on "OK"

See images below for assistance.

Click on the "New" button to begin creating a Collection

Click the "+" signs to expand the categories

Click the boxes to choose the books you want in the New Collection, UNCHECK "the "Include MyDocuments" box, UNCHECK the "Include Notes" box, then, Click on the "Save As…" button.

Type in a name for the Collection then Click on the "OK" button to complete the creation of the Collection.

After you have created and defined a Collection, you can get the Topic Explorer feature to use that collection by clicking on the combo box. See image below:

To select the Collection you created, open the Topic Explorer feature and click on the combo box. (The combo box is circled in the image above.) Clicking on the combo box will reveal a drop down menu with your Collection in the list.

Error Using Search Feature - "Hilited Text: End of Section Before Word Found"

This error occurs when scrolling thru Search Results window. It is caused by a bad book. When scrolling thru the search results, the WS12 program chokes when it gets to that bad book.

Recommendation: Slowly scroll thru the Search results window. Identify the book that is triggering the error, then, delete it and re download it. NOTE: You will have to wait for the Indexing to complete before you do another search.

For the steps to locate and delete a book, follow the steps below.

"Every time I hover my mouse pointer over a Bible reference in a commentary, or other book, the program locks up and freezes. I cannot use it. I have to shut it down."

This problem occurs when your Default Bible is "The Biographical Bible", or, if your Default Bible is set to "Last Used Translation" and the last Bible you used was the Biographical Bible".

Recommendation: Change your "Default Bible"

How to Change your Default Bible

  1. Locate the "Bible" icon, on the main toolbar, the toolbar with all the big icons, at the top of the program window. (The Bible icon is just to the right of the "Back" and "Forward" arrows.)

"When I mouse over the Bible references in my Documents, I do not get a pop-up window displaying that verse(s)."

This is a known issue when you are running Wordsearch 12 on a Windows 10 PC.

We are aware of this issue but we are still working on it. Keep downloading the Wordsearch 12 program updates as they come out to ensure you get the fix when it is available.

"Whenever I Copy / Paste Strong's numbers from the KJV into a Document, the Strong's numbers do not appear."

To get the Strong's numbers from the KJV to appear in a document, select the text, then, drag the selected text into the document.

"Whenever I Copy / Paste Greek or Hebrew text, it gets pasted as weird, strange characters like this: '2504.1 conj ?a? Kai And ." t??s??""

We are aware that Greek and Hebrew text in some of our language books do not get pasted properly and we are looking into it. Keep downloading the book updates as they come out to ensure you get the fix when it is available.

"Some of the maps do not paste into a Document window. Sometimes I only get the citation of the map, or the legend and sometimes nothing gets pasted."

Unfortunately, the maps in our maps books are not created with the intention of being copied then pasted. They are simply designed to be viewed in the book they come in.

"I cannot Copy Bible verses or any text at all from my Wordsearch books into Pages for Mac or Microsoft Word for Mac."
"I do a 'Command + C' like I do in my other Mac applications, then I do a Command + V, but nothing gets pasted.

In Wordsearch 12 for Mac, you need to do a "Control + C" to copy text from our books, then, if you want to paste that test to Pages for Mac, or, Word for Mac, you will do a Command + V to paste.

Problems Using Zipscript in Wordsearch 12

"I can only use Zipscript 1 time. Have to restart my PC to use it again."
"The Zipscript window flashes then disappears after using it 1 time."

This is a conflict between our Zipscript program and the Windows 10 operating system version 1803. We are aware of this issue, we are working on it, however, we do not have a fix at this time.

Keep downloading the Wordsearch 12 program updates as they come out to ensure you get the fix when it is available.

"The Zipscript icon is NOT appearing in the system tray (bottom left corner of screen next to the time)"

If you are looking in the system tray, in the bottom left corner of screen next to the time, and you are not seeing the Zipscript icon, and, if trying to start Zipscript produces the error "An instance of Zipscript is already running" then, you are experiencing a Windows bug that hides commonly used icons.

"TOWP 149 ..." Error Using Zipscrtipt - the yellow Z

You are clicking on the old Zipscript icon. That yellow "Z" is from Wordsearch version 5. Zipscript 5 is not compatible with your version of Windows and that is why the error occurs.

When you install Wordsearch 12, you get a new version of Zipscript and a new Zipscript icon. It is now a blue ball with a white Z on it.

The new Zipscript icon is a blue ball with a white Z on it. This version of Zipscript is the one that is compatible with your version of Windows.

Look for the blue ball with a white Z on it and click on it.
